Mommy at the Flea market in Durban. 1989.

Mommy really loved working at the Flea Market in Durban. Although it often meant she was sewing most days and even late into the night, she loved the flea market environment. She made lots of friends and most of all felt good about supporting herself. Some weeks went better than others of course and it would have been nice if she could have afforded to take a real holiday every now and then. This picture was taken November 28th, 1989.

Some of the Dolls she was making at one time for the Fleamarket.

Friendship Center

When Mommy first came to Utah she didn't want to go to the Friendship Center, when she returned after going back to South Africa for 6 months she agreed to go.The Friendship Center then became her lifesaver I think. She loved going and made some really good friends. In this picture she was taking part in a cultural event, showing the traditions of countries around the world. She made her outfit from a piece of fabric I had bought while in South Africa.

Wendy with Mommy at Sea World in San Diego.

Heather and Mommy at the Oriental Plaza in Johannesburg

We stopped at Covefort on our way down to Disneyland and Sea World.

Mommy pretending this was her car at Covefort.

Mommy with one of the Sister Missionaries at Cove Fort.

Mommy always said Chinese people were good luck. She ran after these little ladies in Sea World, made an excuse to greet them and of course touch them. It was so funny, even funnier when we found out they were Japanese!

She really did love cars. Must go back to when her Dad had the top of the line Model T.
She wanted to pretend she had just climbed out the limousine. This was in Hollywood.

We went up to Sundance one Sunday afternoon.

Not sure if this is in Disneyland or Sea World.
Mommy went back to South Africa after being here in the US for 6 mths, to decide if she really wanted to be here. Not fair really for someone of her age to have to leave your homeland, but she was courageous in so many ways and knew she had to leave because she would soon be all on her own back in South Africa.

Heather and Mommy with some of the ladies at the Retirement home she stayed at in Durban.
